Perhaps it was the irregular heartbeat that a North Carolina doctor diagnosed at my birth on October 28, 1979, which set the pace I would follow the rest of my life. From choosing to wear sweatpants and XL T-shirts, studying ballet, tap and jazz dance, to selecting gymnastics over football, baseball, or basketball, I have never opted for what is popular, easy or expected.
This same irregular pace stimulated my love for music and dance, tragically leading to public ridicule as a member of my high school marching band. Thankfully, my heart skipped a beat and I quickly rethought what I was getting myself in to. I focused on my truer passion of dance, and co-choreographed a hip-hop dance for my high school dance team. Eventually, I tried out to be one of Madonna's back-up dancers when I was finishing my Advertising and Marketing Communications degree in New York City.
Whether I wind up personifying a Japanese anime character in the next big hit television series or perhaps walking the runway for IMG after winning the Manhunt reality TV Show, it's entertaining people and performing that seems to best harmonize with my irregular beat.
