EPISODE 3: (GENDER) BENT BUT NOT BROKEN
Our dozen models try to become spokesmodels, pitching a seaweed drink in Japanese, in a commercial audition with a non-English speaking crew. "Drink Mozuku to get healthy!" they shout, or attempt to anyway. Paulo does the best job, and is rewarded with an hour-long massage.
Everyone gets a little pampering when the guys visit a spa for mani/pedi treatments and some much-needed waxing. Hunter puts in so much extra time tweezing his eyebrows that he's late to dinner.
It's boundary-testing time as the guys are made up for an androgynous, punk rock, S&M-influenced photo challenge. Covered in several gallons of make-up and hair spray and wrapped in leather, latex and chains, they're camera-ready. (See the results in our second photoshoot challenge gallery.)
Judgment day arrives. Bruce, makeup artist John Stapleton, and photographer Stephen Danelian do the honors, evaluating our eleven competitors and hearing a report from embedded model Kevin Peake. He has positive things to say about Rob, Tate, Jon and Hunter, but is conflicted about Paulo.
The time has come to turn our hopeful dozen into our top ten. Not making the cut: an emotional Ron, and a surprised Seth. (Watch their extended elimination interviews for more.) Interestingly, both were Jason's roommates. Is there a curse at work? Last surviving roommate Matt might want to invest in a rabbit's foot...
