Boy Meets Boy: Episode 1

One exceptional gay man. Fifteen extraordinary suitors vying for his attention. But appearances aren't always what they seem: what neither the gay suitors nor the leading man knows is that some of suitors are straight men pretending to be gay in hopes of winning a cash prize. In a world where gay is the norm and straight men must stay in the closet, will boundaries be crossed? Can stereotypes be shattered? Will romance prevail?

"You have me at a kiss.if you can kiss me well." —James, our Leading Man
Meet James, a very handsome, very eligible single gay man. He's athletic, chivalrous, and kind; simply put, he's a catch.

He admits to being shy, "terrified of being rejected." Yet he is a true romantic at heart, and in the spirit of romance James has bravely opened himself up to the possibility of finding that certain special someone among the fifteen other men in the "Boy Meets Boy" house.

"I kind of have James' back." - Andra, his Best Friend

"The guys, if they know what's good for them, will adore Andra." —James
Luckily, James is not alone. With him on this journey is his best friend, Andra. Her task is to help him navigate through the various potential suitors, honing in on the one who has the best chance of being a perfect match.

At the outset, James and Andra have five minutes to study the faces of the fifteen mates. They say you can't judge a book by its cover, but it's hard not to form a first impression from these handsome headshots. From these initial impressions they spot five early favorites: Chris, Dan, Matt, Rob & Franklin. Of course, what they don't know now and won't know for some time is that some of those men might not be gay.

At poolside, James meets the fifteen mates one at a time, offering each a handshake and a Hawaiian lai. A few of the men elect to take a chance in the hopes of standing out from the crowd. Michael, for one, struts down with his shirt fully unbuttoned, confidently showing off his well-defined chest and abs. Sean kneels down and kisses James' hand, then hands him a keepsake: a CD of his favorite song. Brian A. reaches past the handshake and steps in for a brief but pleasant embrace; Paul does the same.

"It would be foolish to say that you put gay men into one house together and there not be some distractions from the leading man." —Jason
Andra emerges and meets the mates, and everyone breaks up into smaller groups to chat and flirt. A few of the guys discuss their musical preferences (pop, punk, "vocal house - not regular house," classical) and vie for James' attention. Elsewhere, Andra spends her time with some of the others, evaluating their potential and keeping a sharp eye open for any who might seem more interested in someone other than James.

In a private moment, James and Andra compare notes. Both agree that there's no one they can easily rule out, though Andra expresses her reservations about some of the quiet ones, like Jason and the very young looking Paul.

Day eases into night, and everyone enjoys a luau complete with fire eating, grass skirts and conch-shell noisemaking. James selects several of the guys for one-on-one conversations: Chris recounts his recent experience coming out to his mom. Paul, somewhat nervously, talks about his hopes for love. Dan boldly confesses his attraction to James, but also admits to having ties to a man back in New York.

"My job now.is to say goodbye to three of you." —James
Behind closed doors, our Leading Man and his Best Friend are forced to select which three mates to eliminate from the group. There are no easy choices. In fact, as his time with her runs out James and Andra still have not decided conclusively on anyone to expel. Moreover, neither has the faintest inkling that some of the men they've spent the day with are secretly straight.

Fifteen men, twelve glasses of champagne. The tension mounts as James offers glasses one by one. Golden-maned Dan, who had earlier expressed a cocksure certainty he would be selected, squirms visibly on the brink of disappointment but is given a reprieve with the twelfth and final glass. Not making the cut, however, are Chris and Jason, both in fact gay, and Brian A., who unbeknownst to James and Andra is actually straight.

"I really learned that you have no idea who is and who isn't [gay], and it really doesn't matter. Love everyone for who they are." —Brian A.
